I find Jon Johansen very interesting.

i read four or five web sites about him. He is amazing. I was astounded that he quit high school to work on computers. He took an annoying problem, such as sharing files to a new high. While he went through a trial for music pirating, he still managed to develop a program to share files, that is legal. I instantly downloaded the new program, double twist. it is so amazingly simple. It is all there. click, click, and the file of your choice is sent. I can't stop saying the word, amazing. He really is.

get double twist here..

I also am following him on twitter and became a fan on facebook. On twitter, I asked him if he plays World of Warcraft, haha.

On twitter, he posted that he is flying to Japan. There is a picture of why, he says. I looked at it, and it is some type of computer box thing.. I have no clue what it is, heh. I can't wait to see what develops now.

mumbling away

quick intro
first.. want to make it clear.. i usually dont use caps or punctuation. if you are ok with that, then welcome.. if not.. then i dont know what to tell you, heh.

i have my fingers in several endeavors at one time.. thats how i usually do. plus, my family call my habits "phases". oo.. punctuation. must be important. haha.

i do several things. i read voraciously all the time. then the phases kick in. i switch back an forth from several activities. right now im in my world of warcraft phase. i just switched out from my sewing phase. in the meantime i started going back to school. yay. interests can range from time to time... reading fantasy, gardening, sewing, gaming, music.. mm.. thats all i can think of right now.

i intend on publishing my scholarly pursuits.
right now im working on a world of warcraft power point for a grade. when done, i may show it to you.

here are some posts that i did for my online class...
(aka my scholarly pursuits)

first intro post:
"i also like to garden and sew. i just dont sew quilts. i am more of a dabbler in all aspects, while not being great at any. hope that made sense. i made all the curtains in my front room. i make costumes of all sorts, even for myself, heh. i have a couple of quilts to my name and also some clothes.
i really enjoy gardening, too. before the crash, i posted my favorite website, gardenweb.com. ill repost that in a bit. that is where i learned to winter sow.
my other hobby is reading and online gaming. my subject matter is fantasy. i love elves and dwarves! ha! i also play world of warcraft with my grandsons. if any of you want to play, there is a program that will recruit a friend. if you do that, then i get a zebra to ride. woo! haha.
thats my story, and im stickin to it. :)"

post #2, my favorite web site.
couple of notes. at this point, i was trying to be nice, and see if this site helped anyone else like it did me. im not sure if anyone reads the posts now.. course i read them all.

www.gardenweb.com
i learned everything i know from this site. its set up similar to a discussion board like the one we are using now. my favorite forums are winter sowing, heirloom tomatoes, and seed swap. never buy seeds again with that forum!

my first post got deleted.. i guess it wasnt considered to be a "utility"... so good thing i submitted a second one.. im zealous that way. that one was on WinRar.. a zipping utility. but that is boring. i really like the other one i submitted better.
oh! silly me.. there is my post.. on the second page.. hecky dern..
you lucky people get to read that one. ;)

http://www.sandscomputing.com/id18.html
This is an unusual utility program, but it is wonderful for people who embroider. Using an embedded computer in my sewing machine, I am able to embroider. In order to embroider, I must have files to download from my personal computer to my sewing machine. When perusing the files on one's personal computer, I want to see at a glance which design I want to use. This program allows me to do that. Before I had this program I had to click open each one. It took a long time and I was often frustrated. It may not occur to non-sewers, but I have easily over 5,000 embroidery files on my hard drive. Free designs are obviously easy to obtain. A quick glance at the provided link illustrates how the icons work. The design is seen instead of the generic file icon place holder.
A separate paragraph must be dedicated to the software company S&S Computing. This is a mom and pop operation, but they have a large dedicated following in the sewing world. Not only is their software the best, but also their customer service is impeccable. They run a yahoo group called
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SewWhatEmbroiderySoftware/ I have purchased several of their software products, including SewWhatPro. The former is an editing program. The group is run by the people who write the software. Any time there is a problem, one can write and receive a response within hours, by the actual software programmer himself. Where else can you find that??
The system requirements are simple. It uses "Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, XP, Windows 2000 and VISTA. SewIconz will also run on the MAC OS using a Windows emulator like Parallels Desktop for MAC. At least 320 kB of free space is required to install the program and help files."
The program, once installed, will never require any further involvement from the personal computer user. "SewIconz is unlike our other software. After the initial installation and setup are complete, it requires no further user interact to perform its tasks. It is a class of software known as icon handlers, which means it interacts with the Windows© Operating System rather than directly with the user."
The program costs $20 for a direct download or $28 if one chooses the option of having a CD mailed. Once the program is purchased, the updates are free forever. If one belongs to the yahoo group, they send out notices frequently. I gladly bought the program, recommending it to all embroidery enthusiasts. The setup is fast, taking no more than five minutes. There is no more interaction with the program. Once installed, it works.

we were to post something on green computing. here is my offering..
ok... the site is having technical difficulties..
short synopsis is that i recommended to recycle our old equipment.
only thing is.. do people look at our hard drive??
here we go...

What do I do with My Old Computer and Other Electronic Products?
http://www.epa.gov/waste/conserve/materials/ecycling/donate.htm
I found this web site, and it echoes the same questions I have. What happens to all the old equipment? Where does it go? Who gets it? What happens to it? They are questions we should all be asking.
The first step to being green starts at home. Recycle your old equipment using responsible methods. Why should we not throw these used electronics in the waste can? Or why can we not put them on the curb? As this web site states,
http://www.epa.gov/waste/conserve/materials/ecycling/faq.htm#concern, there are hazardous materials that prevent us from treating old equipment as simple waste.
“Lead, mercury, cadmium and brominated flame retardants are among the substances of concern in electronics. These substances are included in the products for important performance characteristics, but can cause problems if the products are not properly managed at end of life.”
After reading these two web sites, it should at least bring your attention to the rising problem of properly disposing of your used electronic equipment. It is my hope that the realization of helping the environment, of being green, has been properly initiated.

we had to come up with a free typing web site. i like to find stuff that my grandsons will enjoy.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing/
i have grandchildren, so i am always looking for fun sites for them. i really believe they will be miles ahead with computer skills, especially typing. the above mentioned website will keep their interest, as well as teach them how to type.
as far as myself, i learned by the touch method. i took typing and advanced typing in high school (eons ago, heh). i also took typing again when i was pursuing a business degree (also eons ago). since i do a lot of online gaming, my typing skills definitely give me an edge.
i havent timed myself in a long time, so i really dont know what my wpm is. my husband says i type like really fast, as fast as any of the women in his office. my typing skills are one reason i thought i would do alright with medical transcription.

what is your backup plan?

My Backup Plan - Carbonite
I use Carbonite to back up my computer.
http://www.carbonite.com/
I pay $50 a year for the service, and imho, is very well worth it. The web site (their computer) has access to my computer, and saves everything that is on my hard drive. It took 2 or 3 days for it to get all the data saved. If there is a small green dot on the icon, then that signifies that the file has been saved. otherwise, there is a small red dot, showing that it is still being uploaded, or will be.
I used to use Windows One Care Live. I didn't particularly like it, as I had to have what seemed like thousands of discs dedicated to the backup. Actually there was on average, around 17 CDs. It took a while to burn all them, too. I had to sacrifice, choosing which files i really wanted. I couldnt save any of my music.
This way, with Carbonite, I never have to think or worry about it. It's being done all the time in the background.

thats it for now... when i get the last one done, the power point..
then i will add it.

hope you enjoyed this little foray into the mumblings of the ever so humble, me.
